 From what I have seen on this topic so far:
- Mac users (three? ) have commented that they do not have an issue with
the current installer.
- In the initial thread, many Windows Users indicated that an update
mechanism would be great.
- Some commented the current Windows installer leaves artifacts behind
- Windows Installer does not detect/remove previous installations
- Lots (vast) amounts of discussion on packaging in Linux
- some have question if distributing packages is a good thing

What would be nice to see discussion on from the *community*:
- How do you expect LibO to be updated?
- What are your use cases of Install/Update
- Other programs have separate updating programs (iTunes being an
example), if it was technically feasible, would having this feature be
useful to you?
- Would having a download site/accessible package repository be of value
to you?

Thanks for the great summary. I agree, direction from the whole community on this, now that we have hashed it out a bit, would give clearer direction of expectations.This would have to be presented as a new thread. Scott, the placement of the platforms would all have to show in the same order in the sentences with a little rewording. The choice of vocabulary would have to be within everybody's grasp of their understanding in English -- clear wording. It could be something like this?

=======================

From what we have heard on this topic so far:

- Mac users have commented that they do not have an issue with the current installer available on the Mac platform.

- Window users indicated that an update mechanism would be great. Some commented that the current Windows installer leaves artifacts behind. Windows installer does not detect/remove previous installations properly.

- Linux users have discussed vast amounts opinions on packaging in Linux. Some have questioned if distributing packages is a good thing.

-----------------------

This survey is to gauge the views of the LibO community on the install/update method of LibO. Please voice your opinion so that these considerations may be taken into account when the LibO method of install/update is studied by the developer team.

- How do you expect LibO to be updated?
- What are your use cases of Install/Update
- Other programs have separate updating programs (iTunes being an example), if it was technically feasible, would having this feature be useful to you? - Would having a download site/accessible package repository be of value to you?

=======================

This is just an example of how we could phrase it to the community. Feel free to modify are rework completely. But I think that Scott did put all of these arguments in correctly.

This could then be put to the community as a new thread and the results could be monitored/taken into note for the future planning of the LibO method of updates from the dev team.
