AHA! The magic tickbox. "Apply user data"! I knew it was well-hidden

The "magic tickbox" is already ticked (the default, I presume), but doesn't appear to make any particular difference to where the cursor is positioned when opening a document for editing.

Then you *must* fill your data in Tools->Options->LibreOffice->User data.

Finally, the cursor potion is remembered in each document created or saved
by the User data's owner.

Jean, FWIW, the last couple of versions of OOo also did not automatically position the cursor at the last save either, so it is unlikely something specific to LibO.
