Unfortunately I can't find a link at the moment, but I rather recently
read an article about a new audio format which will preserve layers
(e.g. rhythm guitar, kick drum, vocals) in order to ease remixing.

Now, I highly doubt the format will be released under an open license,
but it's still an interesting thought.

I don't think this is a fight that the RIAA can win. But I suppose if
I were so confident, I wouldn't be on this listserv!
