If Open Source is about freedom for programmers then it is a narrower definition than Free Software, which concerns all computer users. ;-) More seriously, the Open Source Definition is a copy of the Debian Free Software Guidelines which is a copy of the Free Software Definition with some self-contradictory extra terms added. If Open Source means anything then it is just a more confusing name for Free Software. It is however worth asking why Free Culture should be interested in Free Software. A quick answer is that Free Culture is basically freedom of speech, and proprietary software always has the capacity to limit it. - - Rob. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Fedora - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iEYEARECAAYFAkjIH2oACgkQCZbRMCZZBfYd3wCfdfepuRfmZ1vNBvtsyAhR1xjm kWAAoIsIMMnkzHl800P6/4W00YawtQuQ =xGV4 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] http://freeculture.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss
