You should check out the dropdown menu in The _javascript_ Anthology by SitePoint (the first half of chapter 15 and parts of chapter 16). It doesn't use jQuery, but the book is co-authored by the same guy that develops the Ultimate Drop Down Menu, so it should provide some useful inspiration (I was actually toying around with porting it to jQuery back in the spring, but was too busy trying to graduate college to do anything substantial).
