Hi everyone, At my US-based institution, our IT folks are taking inventory of who is using Java applications, and I have brought their attention to OpenRefine. Oracle is rolling out a new subscription-based update model for commercial use of Java (see https://www.infoworld.com/article/3284164/java/oracle-now-requires-a-subscription-to-use-java-se.html for an overview). OpenRefine is a critical application for Data and Library Carpentries, and I am concerned that Oracle's new license model is going to discourage use on any computer that might be called "commercial."
I haven't encountered any discussion of this topic on the list to date. Does anyone have any insight?
