I'm a little late to the discussion, but thought I could some useful 
information.

Oracle Java now requires a paid license. OpenJDK Java from java.net is free, 
but old versions will not get security and bug-fix updates as soon as a new 
version is available, which is not a nice situation if you want stability. 
Oracle Java has been just a supported build of OpenJDK for some time, so they 
should be extremely compatible.

Several companies have promised to support OpenJDK 8 and 11 as stable 
distributions for quite a few years. Amazon Corretto, Azul Zulu, RedHat (on 
RHEL) are some examples. Users of Oracle JDK should migrate to one of these.
