I agree that "Carpentries" is too long and "discuss" is too vague.
How about something like this? carpsdisc That's 2 characters longer than "discuss" and would be opaque to a non-Carpentries person, but would presumably be easily understood by someone on this mailing list, at least after the first few e-mails they got.
