That's not true. Removing stuff simplifies whatever is left. Simpler things are easier to understand than complex things. I've gotten bitten by accidentally reading libbc instead of libc more than half a dozen time. There are plenty of other places in the code that just hinder understanding - either by adding complexity or just being confusing.
