actually this is why the nexenta cofounders developed their product in
the first place. They weren't solaris guys and wanted a userland they
were familiar with. I personally like the idea.

And just to ad some fuel to what can be a big flame (I've already voiced

_ME_, I want a Solaris (illumos) kernel, but none (or as closed to

can possibly/physically come) of the userland associated with it -
I'm for GNU.
But I'm from Debian GNU/Linux so I'm partial - I don't know any
better :)
So if Nexenta goes away from this, I'll (and a lot of friends of
mine) will
switch to StormOS. Not a thread, just a reflection on _my_ needs and
wants.
Also, I still a little confused of who was just announcing illumian -
illumos
or Nexenta? Is there a difference? Who is illumos? Etc...
Nexenta is. Illumos is an open, free, project. We want to get away
from the idea that we are illumos and want it to be a community that
is fully independent.
If this is perfectly clear to everyone, just ignore my ramblings, I'm
used
to it :)
