Hi Milan/Garrett,
Garrett, regarding "I think its *insane* that you guys are worried about
continued resync's against the upstream Oracle data" - we're not.. what
gave you that impression?
We're actively moving components out of JDS into oi-build, but until
that's done (it's *huge* and complex, and we're just 2 or 3 people at
this point) we have to rebuild JDS, because it depends on libraries
we're updating. If we update a library in oi-build that JDS depends on,
we have to rebuild the component in JDS.
I can't speak for Milan or everyone on the OI team, but I personally
completely agree with illumos' decision to chuck sgml2roff out of the
gate, there are plenty of other things that imho should be evicted too
(e.g. sendmail).
I think it was just a surprise to find it missing, and Milan is annoyed
at the extra work it is creating for him, someone with limited time who
is volunteering it to help us with JDS, something many others cannot
stomach.
We can do a build recipe for sgml2roff in oi-build - Milan, if you want
I can do this for you. Just let me know and I'll prioritise this in my
spare time this week.
I'm not sure we have the resources to rewrite pages in a different
format at the moment but if we move anything across to oi-build that
depends on sgml2roff we can look at it.
This is a storm in a teacup, and there's no need for people to argue
about it. As far as I'm concerned, illumos wants to diet, most people
agree this is a good thing because it's obese. Things are going to get
chucked out we need, and we just have to accept the extra work that
creates for OI.
Cheers,
Alasdair
