David,

From my personal email archives, from both the ARM and MIPS Solaris ports,
CZFS
(Compressed ZFS) was mentioned for use for lower end/embedded systems.

Are there currently acttive projects for ARM or MIPS support?

Is anyone really interested in this to the extent of doing the
work or paying someone qualified to do it?

It might be "cool" to have OpenSolaris descendants on routers
or smartphones... why not - with crossbow virtualization and
exclusive IP stacks for one, with reliable ZFS for the other,
there are tangible benefits... but these are quite marketable
commercial devices - so go convince a manufacturer to invest
in this. I am not sending you off to bug someone else - this
venue might indeed be much more "resultative" than just asking
the community members present on these lists to do it.

Otherwise things to be done "out of interest" or for their
"coolness factor" generally go deep down in the priority stack.
IFF sometime someone has nothing (more interesting) to do - this
quest might be looked at. Otherwise, fixing real-life problems
usually is rated higher. At least, that's why I have a backlog
of things that I'd love to complete, but often have to stop at
a half-baked solution which just works (and it costs too much
to pretty it up into packaging and automated installation for
example, where a README instruction just suffices for us) and
have to move on to some more urgent quests. Life is life...
fires are burning everywhere, so I'm running around with a
bucket of water to the largest one at the moment, or at the
nearest one large enough to be of considerable concern :)
