I don't like bash(1). Nothing personal, just too many "features". But that is
irrelevant in this context.

The decision to use bash for the default shell is quite sound as it's the
default pretty much everywhere now. This spares the overworked admin the
nuisance of one platform being "special".

As has been noted, you have the means to do whatever you want. But forcing your
choice on others is not likely to succeed in this community. It's a big ship.
It turns slowly after much deliberation.

Generate a list of all the files in the standard install, decide what you don't
want and delete them. You *had* to do this 30 years ago. Disk was expensive.

Today there is also the problem of diminishing returns. The entire OI install
is less than $0.20 USD of disk space for a non-redundant copy at current
prices. How much time is $0.01 worth? The maximum possible savings don't
justify the discussion much less making changes.

I'm well aware of it, and that's would be what I meant by "the community picked
up maintenance again" in the text you quoted - but there were years before that
happened when it was unmaintained.

The GitHub project OP linked to literally has one release since the reboot tag,
and it's a beta at that. OP should compare that with Bash's release cadence.
