while i appreciate mr. coopersmith sharing those details, what saddened me was 
the level to which solaris has fallen after embracing the whole "open source 
components acceptance" movement.

the reasons shared sounded more like political adjustments rather than 
technical arguments.

i am aware about ksh being in the list of shells under omnios, what i can't 
digest is the fact that omnios had to go and make bash the default login shell, 
even for root.
why try to fix something which isn't broken?
