Prior to about Solaris 2.6 or 7, SunOS/Solaris didn't include much third-party software at all. (But many of us simply installed what we wanted into /usr/local and all was well.) Eventually customer demand drove the inclusion of increasing amounts of third-party applications. The biggest one, I guess, was when OpenWindows and CDE were deprecated and replaced by GNOME as the default desktop environment. -- -Peter Tribble http://www.petertribble.co.uk/ - http://ptribble.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------ illumos: illumos-discuss Permalink: https://illumos.topicbox.com/groups/discuss/T00f6581e133964dc-M7332acd3396ccd279292f7c5 Delivery options: https://illumos.topicbox.com/groups/discuss/subscription
