Background and biases: - I've been using a "router zone" in illumos for over a decade. In my house, with feeds to four floors (basement, 1st, 2nd, attic).
- For 8 years I've been routing two different, mildly disjoint, networks. - I do NOT use illumos as a switch (multiple ports, but shared IP prefix) and have (sometimes layers of) switches to service things. Do you plan on having these runs share the same IP prefix, or are you planning on having them be distinct IP networks? Also, do you have a routable IPv6 (or IPv4 if you are extremely lucky) prefix? And if you don't, do you have a single external IPv4 network? The answer to THOSE questions will inform my answers to anything else.
