I'm planning to install some solar panels, but I'm still not keen on the idea
of running a mini PC 24/7 just to handle networking tasks.
Instead, I’m considering using a slightly more capable main router (which I had
hoped to avoid by using Illumos), and then connecting a few inexpensive SOHO
WiFi access points—something like this one: ASUS RT-AX53U
<https://openwrt.org/toh/asus/rt-ax53u?utm_source=chatgpt.com>. It's not
professional-grade equipment, of course, but the upcoming renovation will drain
most of my funds, and I’ve had good experiences with this model so far.
