This may caused by, either the designer not very understand the user
and the market, or the business side not very appreciate the designs
value for the end USER.

If there's fight, neither side will win; but the user will lost
definitly. So if the project manager pro one side, this just means
he's not very care about the user; if else, he'll ask the question
from the user's side. "for this problem, let's imagine jack will...."
for most of the case, all the forces will corporate for the user's
needs.

Designer should gain the respect by insight which is much more hard
than get it by a title ( i'm the boss , you should listen to be). But
that's one of killer skill of designers. If designer not help the
team's harmony, that's one of the biggest risk, even worse than
without him/her.
