Use the force - euh - I mean desktop, use the desktop! I live by the GTD-principles & it really pays off ... (actually, I adjusted'm a bit & now it works for me; ).
Got the desktop wallpaper layed out in 3 color-coded zones: (1) main / (2) work / (3) play On the desktop, only folders are allowed. No file-clutter!! Actually no real folders, just shortcuts to folders on network-HD's and external HD's used for data storage (+ the advantage of incremental backup). (1) main :: The main-zone contains all media-folders + mounted volumes. PHOTOS, MUSIC, ASSETS, HD's (2) work :: All administrative mumbojumbo (e-mails, flowcharts, wireframes, etc) goes into a structured (client/job-based) projects-folder: PROJECTS_ADMIN Development (designs, software prototyping, ...) in a folder with the same structure as the projects_admin-folder. PROJECTS_DEV Project-related research (docs, ideas, thoughts, resources, ...) - again - in a folder with the same structure as the projects_admin-folder. PROJECTS_RESEARCH (3) play :: All downloads move straight to the research-folder. After screening the downloads they're put in the right place... but for now : RESEARCH Personal documents in the docs-folder: DOCS What I'm "working" on in my off-time goes into the development-folder: DEV A simple solution to help me stay organized! ________________________________________________________________ Welcome to the Interaction Design Association (IxDA)!
