Hi Jose,

1. Assume, for the sake of argument, that Amazon is wrong. Use Case example:

a. User goes to amazon.com (assume user=Will Evans), from his parents
machine while visiting, sees some items, purchases a book to be delivered
(re-logs in with username/password), and selects default credit card for
payment.
b. User leaves, goes home, all is well; but
c. User's father goes to Amazon.com, finds a book and goes through the
checkout process not realizing that it's under the first User's account.
d. Will is confused when he gets a credit card bill for a book he didn't
order, User B get's confused when he (my father) never receive the book.

This is a real example.

If a user is not logged in, it should be very apparent. Saying "Hello, Will"
| *Login* is very misleading. For at least a transactional site - if a user
is not logged in, use "Hello, Guest" | Login, instead -- only acknowledge
you know who a person is when they are logged in. Saying Hello, Guest
reinforces the fact that you aren't logged in, and further - that you may
only see and be able to use a subset of the information/activities on the
site/application.

Sometimes - especially when this information is located in the top right
hand corner of the application, in size 9pt Ariel font - users don't see it.
Although I don't completely subscribe to the voodoo of eyetracking and heat
maps - after looking at (>50) - it becomes apparent - people don't see
things in the top right hand corner.

I could be wrong - but that is my perspective.

- Will
