MS Office upgrade was $129. iWork "upgrade" or repurchase for the new model was $79. So, Apple just uses the same price for a new as an upgrade. It's a simpler model—both cost the same amount. And yeah, generally it's still cheaper.

Not to mention things like Pages and Keynote do everything we used to use Word and PPT for w/o all the extra crap.
