It might be a bit 'out there' for your tastes, but currently I am designing a ruleset for a physical (wholly analog) game that when played will result in an opera-like performance. Amongst other things, the game being played will serve as 'input' for a musical ensemble. Once I wrap up the project I will share some of my experiences. It's been very interesting so far, as most of my past work has been in the realm of the digital. I would also like to second David's point about the stuff happening in European IxD schools, such as CIID and Umea, as well as the Utrecht School of the Arts (where I teach myself).
