I heavily disagree. People might not consciously notice (i.e. care about) the choice of one typeface over the other but still perceive a slight overall difference. Even if they cannot really lay their hands on it. And in terms of fonts available cross-platform (without taking @font-face & co. into account) the differences between possible typefaces (i.e. CSS font cascades) cannot even be called subtle.
