I also have seen some professional programs either not require the GRE (yes,
some don't) or if they do, they'll let you take any of the advanced tests as
a substitute.  Basically what I was told (this was my experience) was that
since I had so much work experience, the GRE/Other test was more of a
"formality".

As a side note, I think these tests are remnants of industrial age
thinking.  They don't necessarily tell more than if the person is just good
at taking tests (I know I'm going to get flamed here :).  I know I do
horrible on standardized tests, but did very well in school, and enjoyed the
experience.  There was an interesting talk by Sir Ken Robinson at TED that I
think really lends itself to this conversation.  The talk was about how our
school system kills creativity.
