According to the ByLaws of LOPSA: "The President, the Communications Committee chair or other spokesperson designated by the Board, and the Executive Director are by default authorized by the Board to engage with the general public and membership on LOPSA issues on behalf of LOPSA...." [1] The Communications Committee Chair is usually a member of the Board, and for specific projects there are occasions where someone else is authorized (like the current editor of the LOPSAgram). So, we already have a position designated. We don't need to figure out a new title, really, either. "Spokesperson" ought to be sufficient enough, eh? DOING the work is more important than what we call it, as long as we don't use offensive or misleading terminology when referencing it. It's essentially public relations and issuance of statements to the public. Regardless of what we call the work or who communicates the results, as has been mentioned elsewhere in this thread, we have limited resources to perform any of this work without new volunteers, including someone serious enough about it with enough time (lots of it) right now to throw at it for a long term committment (months, not mere weeks). That person would likely need to operate with a $0 budget for some time and have the ability to get others fired up about the whole project. With all this in mind, the only way it would work is for us to start small and build our reputation in the public's collective eye (as has been stated in other places in this thread). Also, this needs to have a professional, universal focus to support our mission and our members. We can, in the future, have other projects focus on certain countries' laws and regulations, but we don't even remotely have the resources to consider doing that in ANY country right now - especially since nobody knows who we are yet, which would multiply the lobbying costs exponentially. This is an extremely important aspect of improving both what LOPSA can provide us as members and the community as a whole, but we have no funds available for it. This means volunteers, and lots of them, herded and guided (advocated ;) by a leader among us. So, my challenge to you, my wonderful and engaged members, is which one of us has the energy, the vision, and the time (mostly the time!) to take this on? Email the Board of Directors or contact one of us as individuals if you are interested, please.
