The fan noise of data centers is enough to drive me batty (admittedly a short trip), so I _always_ carry a pair of AO Safety earplugs-on-a-string in my pocket. http://www.amazon.com/AO-Safety-Reusable-Cord-Earplugs/dp/B00284DIPK/ They're also handy during mandatory fire drills, at the gun range, while working with yard tools, etc., etc., My speech and hearing friends say that if you're going to spend 15 minutes or more around loud noises, the earplugs are worth it. I have too many partially deaf friends to argue.
