To Ian and the list,

I have read this message and the three others that followed.  If you are
looking for the best vendor neutral training for Linux.  I would suggest LPI -
Linux Professional Institute's NEW Linux Essentials and then move on to their
LPI - 1 (100 & 200) training and Certification.  Here is a link to their site
and to this new certification :

      http://www.lpi.org/linux-certifications/intro-programs/linux-essentials

The program is designed for the academic sector, youth and others new to the
world of Linux and Open Source technology.

Created in partnership with a community of teachers, trainers and
experts world-wide. The "Linux Essentials" program prepares the next
generation to acquire the advanced skills needed to fill increasing
shortages of workers in today’s mixed IT environments.  Exam is a vendor
neutral, one-of-a-kind measure of foundation knowledge in Linux and Open
Source.

Coming to schools and colleges in June 11, 2012  ....

I took the LPI Cram Class at the OhioLinuxFest last year.  I found this
training to be, as across the distributions - vendor neutral, as possible.
Which helped me to understand the slight differences and also provided me with
the exposure to the difference that I would have not obtained otherwise
briefly.

I have been involved with *nix since 1986 with Altos Xenix and then with
Microsoft/SCO Unix then IBM AIX and Sun Solaris.

Here are the links to the OhioLinuxFest's Cram Class and the Current Events for
LPI :

AND

I am sorry that I did not find any LPI training in the Northwest, at this
time,  but they do offer on-line training and also Training Partners.

If you would want more of a System Admin related conference exposure,  I would
suggest traveling to John Boris's Professional IT Community Conference
(PICC'12) this coming May 11th. :

Check it out,  I believe that you will not be disappointed - Both.

Subject: [lopsa-discuss] Recommendations for Linux SA training?
To: [email protected]

A coworker has been asking around for training recommendations.
"Local" here means the Seattle area:

"We're looking for a hands-on training course for someone who
is new to linux sysadmin work and I'm hoping you'll have suggestions. We do
have other SAs on staff, but need to get this person up to speed on some of the
basics pretty quickly.

If you have experience with or knowledge of good, preferably local,  Linux
training for sysadmins, I'd love to hear about them."

Thanks,
Ian Dotson
