Why should we have any expectation that Microsoft isn't calling up Dell right
now upon hearing about this project and threatening to end Dell's ability to
competitively sell computers with Windows installed by jacking up the price?

Overall this is great news. But we've been down this hopeful road with Dell at
least a couple of times before.

Did it come with flashplayer pre-installed? If so I would like to know how they
pulled that off. Special agreement with Adobe for licensing?

I recently had a client who had been windows-only in the office for years take
an interest in trying out Linux in the form of Ubuntu. He had heard it was more
user friendly these days and didn't have a lot of the issues Windows does etc.
He got it installed all by himself and everything went well for the first 15
minutes of his playing with it.

Then he tried to play a youtube video. It didn't work out of the box. Nor did
Java. He decided Linux on the desktop was unusable and shelved the idea. One
could rightly argue that there was no real business need to look at youtube
videos and that it isn't Ubuntu's fault that Adobe has restrictive licensing
and that this stuff comes preconfigured on Windows because someone else
bothered to integrate all of the software, etc. Rightly or wrongly, none of
that mattered to this small business owner who will continue to rely on his
current Windows-based setup for the foreseeable future.
