A six month experiment Dell is undertaking to design a notebook running open

Why should we have any expectation that Microsoft isn't calling up Dell right
now upon hearing about this project and threatening to end Dell's ability to
competitively sell computers with Windows installed by jacking up the price?

Overall this is great news. But we've been down this hopeful road with Dell at
least a couple of times before.

It happens quite regularly with Dell. Same as for many years we saw that almost every 9 months they'd start talking about doing servers with AMD chips in, which then mysteriously never materialised but was usually followed with some kind of announcement about a renewed partnership arrangement between them and Intel.
