I wish we could allocate defined amounts of time for maintenance, but for the most part it ends up being adhoc... I haven't really looked into buildbot, so I cant really compare it, but I can say the *only* thing I am not thrilled about with jenkins is that it despite the fact you can setup slave nodes, it has no concent of high availability, so the master server is a point of failure. In our case this was no larger a point of failure than what our old main cron server was. The way you can get around this though is that essentially all of the jenkins configs for jobs are files on disk, so you can rsync then wherever you want or check them into version control and at least have offline backups.
