I just replaced my aging Droid 2 Global with a Nexus 4 (along with a Nexus
7 tablet). I absolutely HATED using the Droid 2 for the last year of my
contract. Battery life was horrible, even with replacement batteries. I
doubt I will get a non Nexus phone again, because I hate being locked in to
a specific Android version by a developer or carrier.

That said, I've been using the "Hacker's Keyboard" app on both devices for
a while now specifically for when I'm using ConnectBot. This keyboard can
do pretty much anything that a physical keyboard can and is very
customizable. Plus, it is free & opensource. Here is the google code page
for it: https://code.google.com/p/hackerskeyboard/ or you can get it via
the market.
