Sounds familiar.... 

Looks like the norm is first renewal notice 2 months before (got mine September 
12), and then a second renewal notice 1 month before (got mine October 11) 
Though because I'm so behind on my email, I usually miss the emails. But, its 
been my habit to renew my membership each year around my birthday....which is 
sufficiently before it expires on November 12 (since I joined LOPSA at a 
LISA'08 some years back...). 

And, then this year they lower the renewal price from November 15 to December 
14.... 

Anyways, I remember that the day after I joined, I was sent a renewal 
notice....it did say 'if you believe you have received this message in error, 
to let them know immediately.' Which I was able to do :)
