Hi,

What should I pay a junior Linux admin engaged on a 3 months contract (40
hours a week, mostly on-site but able to work from home 2 days a week if
desired) in Los Angeles?

I've been out of consulting for a few years and don't know what would
fair pay. This would be on IRS form 1099 (contractor) -- i.e. no benefits!
 Hourly pay only.

The duties would include routine infrastructure and (in-house)
application support to free the in-house sys admins for a data center
migration project. Duties would include:

Monitoring server backups and testing restores
Setting up Linux accounts
Building servers following a build procedure
Patching servers (in coordination with Dev and QA)
Light shell scripting (fixing reports)
First-tier support of in-house application (following established
procedures)
Arranging and implementing disposal of old equipment
Other tasks delegated from senior sys admin

Would appreciate any recent experience you can share that might help me
determine "market rates" so I can that or just above that.

Best,
Aleksey
