Mikrotik, that pride of Latvian engineering, makes some really interesting
gear cheap.

http://routerboard.com/CRS125-24G-1S-2HnD-IN is a 24 port ethernet switch,
full 1Gb on all ports, plus a WAP.  For 209.

they have cheaper stuff as well.  Their OS is... interesting.  It's fully
functional, and can do everything you'd ever want it to do, but it is a
little weird and takes some getting used to.  I had a client I inherited
who ran that as their network stack.  Gear ran fine.
