T-Mobile is (or was, a year ago) very willing to send you an in-home
repeater if you have somewhere in your home that gets a decent signal, but
other places where you don't. This was the case for us when we switched,
and it was completely free and hassle-free.
(We don't use it for tethering/data at home, although it's an interesting
notion.)
