Hello ODL Developers: As you know we target a Developer Design Forum (DDF) shortly after every release so that we can get together and plan what we'll do for the following release as well as introduce any significant new activities or projects we may want to consider.
Our Next DDF is scheduled for May 31st/June1 in Santa Clara approximately 3 weeks after the planned release of Carbon. There was discussion about some folks having a difficult time getting to the DDF as a 2 day event and we wanted to start a discussion on what to do about future DDFs beyond the one already planned in May. To repeat, this discussion is not about moving the DDF planned for May 31st/June 1st. The DDF will go on as planned. This conversation is for future DDFs. That said, I can say that the LF is trying to work across all of the LF Networking projects to hold a consolidated "LF Networking Project Summit"... although I'm positive that's *not* what it will be called. This event will be in the fall, counter to ONS being in the Spring and the goal is to have all LF Networking projects combine their "summit"-type events to this single fall event. Holding a DDF coincident with that event or overlapping before/after would make good sense. Other than that (for our non-Autumn timeframe), we can always search for a related event near the time when we would like to have our DDF and try to plan it around that other event to help justify the travel. That is the real question in this thread. When the timing of our release has us planning a DDF as a lone, 2 day event, should we always be flexible in the date we have the DDF so that we can co-locate with another event, in order to get more international participants able and willing to travel for the combination of events and not just the DDF alone. Please chime in here with your preference. If we are willing to be a bit more flexible on when, in relation to an ODL release, we can have the DDF, then we'll plan on trying to colocate with another relevant event. If the timing of the DDF is critical (in relation to the end of one release and the beginning of the next), then being able to find another event to colocate with will likely be an issue. Thanks in advance for your feedback.
