Personally, I prefer a 2 (or 3) day focused DDF. I realize that I'm only travelling from the East coast to the West coast in the US, and that it is more difficult for people travelling further.
Co-locating it with a major conference is challenging because they tend to run 4 days, which doesn't leave much time for a DDF in the given week. If we run the DDF concurrently with the other conference, it makes it difficult to get everyone you need in a room due to competing priorities. An option is to use the previous or following week-end or week, thought that makes for a long trip. Could we consolidate 2 or 3 related DDF-type events into a single week? Some options that come to mind are OPNFV, fd.io and OVS. In any case, it could be an option to hold the DDF outside the US sometimes to share the burden. Having the DDF at the beginning of a release cycle is ideal, but I'm willing to be flexible.
