All,

I have no problems with flag or poster inside our window, that would be in
compliance with the landlords wishes. I'll work on the money for the software
upgrade, perhaps there are some open source alternatives? Between Electrical
and Software Upgrades we need membership to grow to 55 to 60, full members.

I would like to own a SKSP flag. It's a great thing to have, Useful for public
events, trade shows and meeting allied military units in training or battle,
it's a tradition that goes back centuries.

Besides, then we have a flag for someone who dies. Ron can say "On behalf of a
grateful HackerSpace, your son/daughters/Spouse/Life Partner's sacrifice will
always be remembered. Please accept this flag as thanks for his/her service
from the Hackerpsace that demanded he/she make the ultimate sacrifice for".

Remote access will require an estimated $500 software upgrade. I suspect a
lockbox by our door (ideally keyed to our old lock) containing an emergency fob
would be more cost effective.

A flag or poster would probably be ok to display inside one if our windows.

All,

I had an extensive phone call with the Landlord, I am very sorry to inform you
of the following:

Be advised the Landlord is not permitting the installation of a Flag, Canadian,
or otherwise mounted externally on the building.

The landlord cited our lease agreement, potential issues from Heritage/Exchange
Character/City of Winnipeg By-Law and the potential for yearly sign/flag
licensing fee. A potentially liability issue with the Flag, pole and assembly
accumulating large chucks of ice/snow causing failure of the assembly and
damage to building, or pedestrians below.

The landlord requested we limit, with his permission, our cosmetic changes to
inside our rented space.

On a Positive note:

By and large the landlord is happy with us as tenants. There have been no
complaints from any of our neighbours.

As a gesture of good faith, he has agreed to foot the bill for the panic bar
escape for the back door. He is committed to the electrical repair of the "cut
conduit" issue currently effecting the freezer and fridge. We agreed to deal
with the Kitchen GFI Plug issue as soon as we can get Soma to execute the work.
Please be aware that we leased the space (as is) so these concessions and
improvements are quite noteworthy and indicative of a Landlord who values us as
tenants.

The Landlord has grudging accepted our Keyfob access control system on the
condition that we provide quick access to his building personal in the event of
an emergency. It would be very good idea if we:

1. Had the remote capability of opening our door.

2. We have the Access Control hooked to the fire alarm to open the door for
emergency exit.

Meeting concluded on a positive note, as he is impressed by our willingness to
keep the space clean and tidy, improve the space and execute quality work on
our external security system (Good Job Colin!)

Can't really use the current banner - turning it on its side doesn't look good
IMO.

I think the black rectangular logo would be better, though it's more a "banner"
shape than a "flag". It's attractive, and the text helps "explain" the logo.

What about the existing white banner that's already in the space?

Of the flag designs shown, I prefer the Black logo with orange on white, no
text. The text is overshadowed by the size of the logo, and there's something
cool and mysterious about just the logo. (though it'd be horrifically
ineffective as advertising)

Also I was thinking a different grey... but I'll show you later today.

I put all those suggestions together. But I don't think it works well to keep
the text together and at only one end of the sign, looks unbalanced.

For #3, imagine that I know what I'm doing in Inkscape and that the white area
around the text is grey.
