2 reasons: 1. If you have it on shuffle play then the songs will just get all mixed in.
2. The new songs will be put at the *end* of the current playlist, so in most cases you would have to wait through a lot more tracks before hearing the new stuff--the idea is to have the new stuff start playing immediately after the current song.
