The program is called "CMDOW" and can be found here:

It's a very neat and small command line program which can be used to start any other program specifying it's window appearance - minimized, maximized or: HIDDEN!
Works perfectly, does not need any ressources, slim.exe starts faster, my Itunes gets updated and I don't have any clutter in my taskbar!
Nice utility! I could see a number of uses for it on my PC.
Another option is FireDaemon:

It lets you install and run any Windows app or batch file as a service, but have it run as whatever user you wish (which gets around the problem of Windows services not being able to access shares).
I've been using it for quite a while and have been very happy with it. (The free version allows you to set up a single service; the paid version is unlimited.)
