Just a comment on this whole "hard disks are cheap so rip to FLAC" thing.
Yes, hard drives are cheap, you can probably get a couple of 200GB drives and rip all of your stuff to FLAC. Then if you want to back it all up effectively you will need to buy another couple of hard drives or set up a RAID, etc... all of a sudden not as cheap. Especially if you need a transcoded copy of your music for devices that don't support FLAC. I had a buddy with a bunch of music that was not backed up. His motherboard went out and corrupted the hard drive. Now he gets to rip 400 CDs again.
