I wouldn't personally use it this way, but I can see someone wanting to ditch a lousy old alarm clock, and then replace an existing SB3 connected to a bedroom audio system with the SB Boom.
But then again, this might simply encourage those of us Americans prone to excessive consumption to start filling landfills with old alarm clocks.
