So in summary (in order of necessity): a) Shorten lists b) Run server on fast basement machine but use web browser on laptop (although it's not entirely clear that you are not doing this already) c) Use Google Chrome browser (in application mode) - very recommended, a great browser d) Use classic skin instead of default one (if you still need to after doing all the above).
