Ah, a binary. I just installed it I'm not very impressed. Imitation of

experience.
I hope this isn't in defense of Softsqueeze being a good desktop
experience, considering it's even more of an 'imitation of hardware
devices'. What would have impressed you?
I don't like SoftSqueeze either as a user experience. I'd like to have
an application with a computer user interface. Fast and sleek end making
good use of the PC's mouse and keyboard. A PC/OS/X/Linux desktop
application and not a web interface or Controller imitation. Something
I'd like to use when I'm sitting behind my PC.
I think the original point of SoftSqueeze was to emulate the hardware.
It was a cool idea and nicely done. I don't know if the original
opensource developer got anything for it but a thanks.
I was one of the people with the idea and I supplied the name. Richard,
the developer got hired by SD and I hope (and expect) he was nicely
rewarded.
Over the years it has become more complex. Now, I think SoftSqueeze is
used more for advertising the hardware (i.e. "give it a whorl and buy
the real thing if you like it"). But that's a matter of opinion.
If you are looking for the most minimal client that you can run on your
Linux computer, try slimp3slave:

I'm not looking for slimp3slave either ;)
