I can now confirm that this workaround solution does indeed work, however do not use a * as above. I used the tag with a '(c)', i.e. 'Duran Duran (c)' for the artisit on a compilation. So anyone with these problems that does not want to see the artists song from a compilation listed twice if you have another album by them you can use this method.
