No, this is how the developers at Slimdevices wanted it to be, and was
updated with the latest firmware changes.  I have commented elsewhere
that this was a bad idea. The change in behavior was intentional as
support needed a way to debug connection issues. (It was originally
much worse as the error message was not timed out after 30 seconds, but
was perpetual).

Since the failure of a server or connection to the server can't be
distinguished from deliberate server power save schemes, and since the
SB is no longer programmed to go quietly into that good night, but
rather to rage visibly against the dying of the server, we are stuck
with it.

It would be nice to have the old behavior back as a programmable
setting.
