I leave my box up 24x7 so it's not a problem for me, but I think you should open a ticket at bugs.slimdevices.com asking that this new message be displayed at the same brightness that was in use just before the connection was lost. Then software like SvrPowerControl could simply set the off brightness of each player to 0 and turn each player off before shutting down the SqueezeCenter host.
