Don't see why should take so long. Is your music stored on the Slimserver PC/Mac internal hard drives, or somewhere else on your LAN? If on your LAN is it wired or wireless?
fwiw my music scan takes 6 hours on the NAS, and about 2 on the HTPC (NAS with music) 100 mbps LAN. 25K tracks.
