Thanks for the response. My iTunes library and the Squeeze Center are on the same box (a decent 3 year-old Athlon dual core PC).
I think my disks may be slower than they should be (long story, but maybe twice as slow). I suppose this could account for the issue, but the whole things seems silly. Why does SC re-scan ALL the artwork? Even if I have it set to "New and Changed Music" it does the whole artwork scan. I think that's the major problem here. If it took 1 day the first time, but 10-20 minutes on re-scans, I could live with that. Let me ask a simpler question: is there some way to completely disable artwork as part of the scan?
