Usually, devices like these are capacitively coupled (as Phil said in
his post). This filters out any DC components which might harm
sensitive hardware. Assuming this, it sounds like the DC level of the
unselected SB is creeping off 0 volts when not sourced by your amp.

On the other hand, depending on how your amp is put together, I could
imagine the DC level of the "other" source you are switching from is
significant. That is, maybe, switching from the other source to the SB
is causing what sounds like a thump.

I can't imagine it is the SB as described in the first paragraph above.
Simply because the SB's power supply is a "wall wart". That is, the
SB floats and isn't grounded to the outlet.

If it is as described in the second paragraph above, try unplugging the
source from which your are switching from when you hear the "thump" as
you switch to the SB. You your self said the "thump" is not always the
same. I bet it depends on the source you are switching away from.

In any case, it is always a good idea to plug all your audio equipment
into outlets that are near each other to eliminate possible differences
in ground potential. I would recommend getting a properly or overly
rated power strip.

(One last note, when you put "bump" into a forum subject line it sounds
like you are "resurrecting" an old thread. Just FYI.)
